COVID-19 Vs Ayurveda




          COVID-19  AYURVEDA VISION

    As we are aware about the coronavirus; it is a worldwide epidemic. People are in a panic; schools are closed, roads are closed, cities are closed and everybody has to sit in their home in their house with the family. So this is a very critical time.
  I was just reading Charaka Samhita and in it, there is Vimana: 03rd chapter called “Janapada Udhwamsa”, janapada means commiunity.Udhwamsa means destruction. which means [refers to] world-wide epidemics. There Charaka says this is a great opportunity to be here at home.

   Sometimes, during curfew, lock-down or quarantine period very hard to find out herbals and herbal formulas. In this case I believe it would be very useful to give you a few simple tips what you can follow at home. And I hope you know enough basic knowledge of the nature of the COVID-19 diseases, how it spreads, how to be safe.

v Drink warm water throughout the day.(Be careful not to mix hot and cold water, Avoid refrigerated beverages)
v Strictly avoid Drinking liquor and smoke
v Eat only warm foods.
v Gargle with warm salt water, then spit it out.( To make a salt water add half tea spoon of salt to a cup of warm water)
v Drink Ginger coriander tea twice a day. 

    How to make Ginger Coriander tea
   12g Roasted dry coriander seeds,
    10g Fresh ginger root cut into thin slices in a saucepan with 1/4 liter water.    Bring to the boil, reduce the heat to medium and simmer, uncovered, for 15  minutes. Stain and drink hot.


v Listen music and try to manage stress, Relax and calm down.
v Action must be taken to be safe and not fearful. Do you know that fear reduces immunity?                     
v Exposed to the sun in the morning if possible.
v Improve immune system Eat more foods that contain vitamin C,E and Zinc (Vitamin C 1000 mg pill) 
v Consume more garlic as a food or herbal tea (should be cooked / Garlic has high pH, However, garlic has the potential to destroy viruses.

Ayurveda’s immunity boosting measures for self care during COVID 19 crisis
    In the wake of the Covid 19 outbreak, entire mankind across the globe is suffering. Enhancing the body’s natural defence system (immunity) plays an important role in maintaining optimum health. 
    We all know that prevention is better than cure. While there is no medicine for COVID-19 as of now, it will be good to take preventive measures which boost our immunity in these times.
    Ayurveda, being the science of life, propagates the gifts of nature in maintaining healthy and happy living. Ayurveda’s extensive knowledge base on preventive care, derives from the concepts of “Dinacharya” - daily regimes and “Ritucharya” - seasonal regimes to maintain healthy life. It is a plant-based science. The simplicity of awareness about oneself and the harmony each individual can achieve by uplifting and maintaining his or her immunity is emphasized across Ayurveda’s classical scriptures. 
    Ministry of AYUSH recommends the following self-care guidelines for preventive health measures and boosting immunity with special reference to respiratory health. These are supported by Ayurvedic literature and scientific publications.

Recommended Measures
I General Measures
1.     Drink warm water throughout the day.
2.     Daily practice of Yogasana, Pranayama and meditation for at least 30 minutes as advised by Ministry of AYUSH (Yoga at Home ,Stay Home, Stay Safe)
3.     Spices like Turmeric, Cumin, Coriander and Garlic are recommended in cooking. 

II Ayurvedic Immunity Promoting Measures
1.     Take Chyavanprash 10gm (1tsf) in the morning. Diabetics should take sugar free Chyavanprash.
2.     Drink herbal tea / decoction made from Tulsi (Basil), Cinnamon, Black pepper, Dry Ginger and Raisin - once or twice a day. Add jaggery (natural sugar) and / or fresh lemon juice to your taste, if needed.
3.     Golden Milk- Half tea spoon turmeric powder in 150 ml hot milk (Goat milk Recommended)- once or twice a day.

III Simple Ayurvedic Procedures
1.     Nasal application - Apply sesame oil / coconut oil or Ghee in both the nostrils (Pratimarsh Nasya) in morning and evening.
2.     Oil pulling therapy- Take 1 table spoon sesame or coconut oil in mouth. Do not drink, Swish in the mouth for 2 to 3 minutes and spit it off followed by warm water rinse. This can be done once or twice a day.

IV  During dry cough / sore throat
1.     Steam inhalation with fresh Mint leaves or Caraway seeds can be practiced once in a day.
2.     Clove powder mixed with natural sugar / honey can be taken 2-3 times a day in case of cough or throat irritation.
3.     These measures generally treat normal dry cough and sore throat. However, it is best to consult doctors if these symptoms persist.

v  The above measures can be followed to the extent possible as per an individual’s convenience.

v These measures are recommended by following eminent Vaidyas from across the Country as they may possibly boost an individual’s immunity against infections.  


Ayurveda Treatments
Following Home Remedies very effective for elimination of the symptoms of Covid-19.It has been shown can less virus load in the body, and slow down virus multiplication speed in the body. These instruction must be followed very carefully.  It is also necessary to follow all official guidelines on quarantine and safety measures. 

Home Remedy -  1

Coriander and ginger tea

Dosage: - 3 times a day (try to replace coffee and tea with this drink)
Ingredients :( for 3 cups enough for one day)

Whole coriander seeds     - 3 tablespoon(12g)
Water                                - 750ml  
Fresh ginger                     - 3 slices the size of 10 pence piece(10g)

Method: -Dry coriander seeds roast till brown colour, then Boil the water and coriander seeds in a pan for 5-10 minutes (to tea colour) - Just before 5 minutes turning the heat off, add 3 slices of ginger - Drink a small cup of this tea warm / hot - Drink 3 times a day – roughly at 9.00am, 12.00pm and 5.00pm

Storage: - Leave the pot on the stove and reheat for 2 more cups on the same day - Prepare a new pot each day (Don’t keep in refrigerator)

Notes: - After drinking this tea, you might experience a rise in body temperature and sweating and then cooling as it assists the body in killing pathogens. You may also urinate more frequently as the body is eliminating toxins through the urinary system - Continue to drink this tea for as long as you have a fever / flu like symptoms with a new pot each day.


Home Remedy  - 2

Ginger Lemon and Honey tea

Dosage: 1 cup / Morning and evening after meals

How to make tea each one time

Take piece of fresh ginger
grate ginger root 1 inch
grated ginger paste add into the tea small tea pot
add boiling water 1 cup 
close the lid and leave it for 3 minutes.
take mug and add  1- Table spoon bee Honey
                              1- Table spoon Lemon Juice
                               ¼ - tea spoon black pepper powder
Mix as well and add Ginger water 1 cup
Drink hot. 
Notes:- If you have a diabetes or concern about sugar level, use small amount of honey.  
          
Notes: - Take after meals only - continues as long as you are experiencing symptoms of cough / cold / flu

 Home remedy - 3

Cumin and honey 
Dosage: - 1/2 tea spoon cumin seeds powder mix with 1/2 tea soon bee honey and eat few minutes. Morning and Evening before meals - approximately 10 minutes before eating

This allows detoxification of toxins created during digestion

Ingredients:
Whole cumin seeds - 100g ( enough for several days)
Bee Honey        

Method:take 100g cumin seeds wash as well.
keep till dry (under the  fan),then using frying fan roast few minutes on low flame until evaporate moisture, when start  releasing nice aroma smell,take off the flame and transfer to a cold plate.
keep a side for cool down.
using kitchen grinder machine or coffee machine make find powder. if not available any equipment,motor or pestle,put the cooled cumin seeds in a plastic bag and crush them with a rolling pin or the bottom of the heavy pan.

Storage: - Store in airtight bottle and keep it in room temperature.this will keep for a few weeks.

Herbal Facial Inhalation 1

Dosage:- To be done for few minutes (As long as Tolerable) if possible 2 or 3 times a day.

Ingredients:Dry coriander seeds  - one handful
                   Fresh ginger              - 10g  (chop)  
                   Lime peel                  - (by 1 lemon)
                   Boiling water             - 1 liter

Method: -  
Boil water with coriander seeds.
When start evaporate water, add chop ginger and lime peels.
Place a towel or cloth over your head,lean over the bowl and gently inhale the steam .
Try to inhale though the nose and exhale though the mouth for a few minutes.

Notes: - Be Careful, Do the steam inhalation gently and take care not to burn the nasal passages.
take air in between if needed by lifting the towel and breathing normally.

Notes: - continue as long as you are experiencing symptoms of cough / cold/ flu.

Facial Inhalation 2
Dosage:- To be done for few minutes (As long as Tolerable) if possible 2 or 3 times a day.

Ingredients:Vinegar                - 2 Table spoon( Any kind of vinegar)
                   Turmeric Powder -  1⁄2 tea spoon 
                   Boiling water       - 1 liter

Method: - 
Mix and add Vinegar and Turmeric in to a large bowl.
Add 1 liter of boiling water to the paste and stair.
Place a towel or cloth over your head,lean over the bowl and gently inhale the steam .
Try to inhale though the nose and exhale though the mouth for a few minutes.

Notes: - Be Careful, Do the steam inhalation gently and take care not to burn the nasal passages.
take air in between if needed by lifting the towel and breathing normally.

Notes: - continue as long as you are experiencing symptoms of cough / cold/ flu.
